SAPE Promo Interview with Cy

Joining me today we have Cy, National Youth Week Indigenous Musician of the Year and Indigenous Hip-Hop & RnB BUMP Best Producer nominee.

Q.Thank you for joining us today Cy, for the readers that would like to know you abit better, what can you tell us about yourself?
I started recording music in 2010. In that time i created a mixtape entitled ‘The War Has Just Begun’, taught myself music production and sound engineering. In 2011 I created C.Y Entertainment for artists needing advice and mentoring with their career. After having management problems of my own, I started managing myself. Since then I have won Indigenous Musician of the Year at the National Youth Week Awards. I was also nominated for Best Producer at the Indigenous Hip-Hop & RnB BUMP Awards in September.

Q.And you currently operate C.Y Entertainment, What can you tell us about that venture?
I created C.Y Entertainment for artists needing advice or mentoring on their career. Since its release in May 2011, I have signed T-Dub from the Sunshine Coast and BLOOD BEATS from Dubbo in New South Wales North West. I didn’t create C.Y Entertainment to steal money from struggling artists, I offer graphic designs, beats and recording time, that in my opinion is the cheapest on the market. I’m aiming to have C.Y Entertainment known nationally within the next 4 years.

Q.What makes your music unique compared to everyone else?
I guess because I think differently from everyone else. I’ve grown up seeing things a child shouldn’t see. It’s given me a different perspective on life. Not all my songs portray that but I’m working on some new songs for release in 2012 that show what I’ve gone through and how I’ve overcome depression and thoughts of suicide.

Q.How are you going to make sure the D.R.E.A.M.S mixtape will be a successful project?
At the moment it’s just been released and I’m promoting it online as well as selling it at concerts. I’ve landed a few magazine features so it’ll help with the mixtapes exposure. I only found out after I finished the final mix, that my speakers were projection the wrong sound. So I’m in the middle of a complete studio upgrade.

Q.What are your top 3 nominations for rising Australia independent artists and why?
I’d have to say Konect A Dot from Griffith in New South Wales. He’s one of the hardest working artists in hip-hop and a close friend of mine.
Also I can’t forget D’trell from Sydney. He’s a natural born artist. He’s going to go far in 2012
Lastly, J.Dwight from Sydney, He’s came along way and making major waves in the industry

Q.What are your predictions for the 2012 music scene?
There’s going to be a lot of new talent emerging. This year alone I’ve seen countless artists rise and fall. You have to have something unique, some people are going to be disappointed when they can’t keep up. In my opinion I’m still struggling, I’m always looking to improve and I’m happy to say I am.....slowly, Haha.

Q.And what are your future plans?
I’m starting to plan a U.S tour thanks to my American connections I’ve made through Facebook. If everything goes to plan then I’ll be touring in mid 2013. Other than that, I’m busy in the studio working on new songs for my next mixtape and debut E.P due for release in 2012.
